Pricey electronic toy
Rt Aside from the anticipated launch of Sun City’s newest electronic toy, the highly touted Community Web Portal, there is the matter of what it is going to cost and who is going to pay for it.
Before we look at that, it is worth restating what it will do. The Web Portal is a computer-based information distribution program available exclusively to Sun City Huntley residents. The Portal will allow all clubs, special interest groups and governing committees to post information about meeting dates, special alerts to members, activity dates and almost anything of interest to anyone interested in knowing what is going on in the community.
It will not allow any “freewheeling” commentaries or blogs; it is all about communicating community information.
As to the expense, the initial setup and installation will cost $26,000. In addition to that one-time charge, and beginning in 2008, a $1.50 monthly fee per home will be charged by the Web host to provide ongoing support and maintenance of the system.
Considering all factors, that annual amount is expected to be $100,300. Residents will not incur any additional direct costs beyond the regular $115 monthly assessment.
It is anticipated that the yearly cost will be offset by annual advertising revenues.
The community Association would be responsible for making up any amount short of the total.
Walleye service expands
In her monthly article appearing in March’s Lifestyle brochure, Food Service General Manager Brenda McVicker announced that beginning Friday, April 13, breakfast will be served Fridays and Saturdays from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Walleye Restaurant. The new service is being made in response to frequent requests from residents.
McVicker also announced that reservations for the Walleye’s fabulous Easter breakfast buffet are being accepted. The buffet, as those who enjoyed it in the past know, is a gastronomical extravaganza. For additional information or to make reservations, call (847) 515-7675.
More about food
While “eating out” is overtaking “eating in” as a habit in our society, there is a hard-core group of folks who love to stay at home and make delicious meals from scratch. They love to cook. Imagine — life without a microwave. Yes, they are out there, and Lesley Cowles, special events coordinator, is providing an opportunity for anyone interested in cooking to help form another Sun City first.
Cowles included a request in the current Lifestyle brochure, inviting residents to volunteer to be part of the first Sun City Huntley Cook Book Committee. If you are interested in cooking, or if your work experience involved publishing cook books, take a moment to complete the green form in the March issue, and drop it off at the CAM resident services desk, attention Lesley Cowles.
If a neighbor asks, “What’s cooking?,” you will be able to tell them. To date, Cowles has not asked for any “food tasters,” but when she does, finding volunteers for that service should not be a problem!
