The best seat in town Thursday 9/4 will be in the parking lot of Horton’s Home Furnishings in downtown La Grange.

The La Grange Business Association will be auctioning off the 88 multicolored, multitheme Adirondack chairs that have decorated the business district and provided a place to rest tired feet since the Lounging in La Grange! event began May 31.

The auction will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Horton’s parking lot, 60 S. La Grange Road. 9/4
Proceeds from the event are donated to a variety of area charities, including Pets and Pals Charities, who sponsor of the La Grange Pet Parade and are dedicated to promoting and supporting the health and care of animals in Metropolitan Chicago.

Those local nonprofit organizations sponsoring chairs will receive whatever funds are raised from the auction of their chairs.

Revenue raised from the auction of the remaining chairs will be distributed to other charities.
Event chairperson Jean Kuhn, owner of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, said the chairs were as well received by visitors downtown as last year’s Elephants on Parade.

“I think the chairs gave a lot of people a place to lounge in La Grange,” she said. “More often than not, I saw the chairs filled. I heard nothing but good comments  about them.”

As for the jumbo chair sponsored by the village and the Park District of La Grange  located in front of the fountain next to the Village Hall, it will be placed in one of the village’s parks, Kuhn said.
