Greg Donnelly recently was named the 2009 Rotarian of the Year by the Hinsdale Rotary Club.

“I got involved in Rotary 15 years ago after attending my first meeting, and I realized the men and women were doing things, not just talking about doing things,” said Donnelly, past president of the organization.

One of the programs Donnelly helped organize is the Rotary Run for Wellness that benefits the Wellness House. He also organized the annual Turtle Races, conducted during festivities following the Independence Day Parade.

“I am most proud of my involvement with the Wellness Run, which takes place every October, because it started as a small event with about 400 people to a community event with 3,000 people that has raised more than $1 million over the last five years,” Donnelly said. “It takes months to plan and execute the run, but it is wonderful to know that our neighbors and friends benefit from our planning and hard work, and that the money raised stays here in Hinsdale.”

The club, celebrating its 50th anniversary in Hinsdale, also provides scholarships and a variety of programs of service to the community.

On Thursday, Aug. 20, the Rotary Club will dedicate a 15-foot clock tower to the village, to be placed at the Hinsdale train station between Garfield Avenue and Washington Street.
