Man faces theft charge
Cesear A. Diaz, 23, of Lyons was charged with theft at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Hinsdale Police Department following a nine-day investigation, police said.
According to Deputy Police Chief Kevin Simpson, Diaz was working as a contractor inside a home in the 500 block of North Garfield Avenue Sept. 16 when a ring valued at $12,000 was reported missing.
The ring — described as a white gold Cartier ring with diamonds — has been returned to the owner, police said.
Simpson said Diaz came to the police department voluntarily Sept. 25, and was arrested and charged by investigators following an interview. Diaz is not considered a suspect in any other cases of theft in Hinsdale, Simpson said.
Domestic battery alleged
Anthony F. Downey, 32, 21 Spinning Wheel Road, Hinsdale was charged with two counts of domestic battery after being arrested at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 28 following calls of a disturbance, police said. Downey is alleged to have made physical contact of a provoking or insulting nature to another person, according to police.
Tip jars reported stolen
Jars designated for cash tips placed on a counter at Starbucks, 500 E. Ogden Ave., were reported stolen between 5 and 6 p.m. Sept. 23, according to police. About $100 in tips were in the jars, police said.
Garden gnome stolen
A 3-foot garden gnome was reported stolen between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m. Sept. 20 from the front porch of a home in the 500 block of West Maple Street, police said. The gnome is valued at $200.
Man faces drug charge
Joseph A. Sauseda, 24, Chicago, was charged with possession of a controlled substance after being arrested at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Shell Food mart, 210 E. Ogden Ave., police said.
According to police, Sauseda was in possession of what appeared to be a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine in the parking lot of the business, according to police.

Retail theft alleged
Three women were charged with retail theft after being arrested at 1 a.m. Sept. 25 after police were called to the Jewel-Osco, 7355 S. Cass Ave., for reports of shoppers leaving the store without paying for cosmetics, police said.
Camille R. Newson, 19, 7805 Woodward Ave., Woodridge; Jennifer C. Borowski, 26, 8181 Route 53, Woodridge; and Starnisha J. Bellamy, 21, of Forest Park, all were charged with retail theft, according to police.
Police said store security officers told investigators the three women allegedly placed cosmetics in their purses and then walked out of the store without paying for the items.
Bellamy also was charged with obstructing justice for giving a false name and birth date to officers, according to police.
Light fixture theft reported
Angelo D. Manning, 27, of East Chicago was charged with retail theft after being arrested at 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at The Home Depot, 2101 75th St., after officers were contacted by store security, police said. According to police, Manning left the store without paying for four light fixtures valued at $544.
GPS removed from car
A global positioning system, valued at $500, was reported taken between 5 p.m. Sept. 22 and 9 a.m. Sept. 23 from a car parked in the 7400 block of Brookdale Drive, police said. According to police, the driver’s side window was smashed to gain entry.
Electrical boxes vandalized
Graffiti was spray painted on two Commonwealth Edison electrical boxes before 11:15 a.m. Sept. 22 in the 8300 block of Lemont Road and the 2700 block of 83rd Street, police said. No damage estimate was provided.
