Fall is officially here and to celebrate the spooky season, organizations throughout Hinsdale are teaming up to host one big festival.
Instead of a variety of events thrown by groups throughout October in different locations, one big Hinsdale Fall Fest will take place Oct. 18 in Burlington Park.
The Chamber of Commerce’s Boley Family Festival, the Community House’s Halloween Party, Washington Square’s Scarecrow Fest, the library’s scary stories, the Parks and Recreation Department’s Haunted Hinsdale, and the Great Pumpkin Patch may no longer have their own individual days, but all elements will be weaved together.
“I’m looking forward to it,” said Chamber of Commerce Assistant Director Eva Field. “With so many organizations coming together, it’s going to give it substance and a little something for everyone.”
Field said there won’t be the parade or downtown trick-or-treating but the new event will definitely include the popular costume contest and prizes.
Live music, magic and spooky stories will also set the tone for fall as families enjoy face painting, carnival games and pumpkin decorating.
Gina Hassett, Hinsdale’s new parks and recreation director, said they have ordered several hundred pumpkins to decorate along with 50 bails of hay and cornstalks to decorate the light poles and bring a festive look to Burlington Park. With all the fall dates scheduled in the past to host all of these events and with everyone trying to accomplish the same thing, Hassett said she feels that having all the local organizations working together they can put on a better event.
“Burlington Park is such a great location and just brings a different feel to things,” Hassett said. “This is a very large collaborative effort and should be a great opportunity for everyone to come out and enjoy the fall-like weather as they see the park being transformed into The Great Pumpkin Patch.”
