Martha Daley attacks each home interior design opportunity as if her client’s home is her own.
Daley, owner of M Home Inc., opened her business Nov. 2 in downtown Hinsdale.
“I set up the shop like a home center so when people walk in they can see entire rooms,” said Daley, who grew up in New Hampshire and worked for 15 years as an interior designer and a recruiter with Walter E. Smythe, a custom home furnishings company.
From finding the right accessory to enhance a living room to redesigning an entire home, Daley said operating a business that handles a variety of home decorating tasks is the opportunity of a lifetime.
The store, a 2,500-square-foot showroom at 48 S. Washington St., is the contact point for clients. But Daley does her best work where her expertise will be manifested — in the client’s home.
“You always want the interior design to reflect the exterior,” Daley said. “I do home consultations that bring me inside the home so I can really get a sense for how the interior will eventually connect with the exterior.”
M Home serves those in the western suburbs, but she also has helped design interiors as far away as Bluffton, South Carolina.
Travel is part of the business — every year Martha travels to New York City, Atlanta, High Point, N.C. and Texas to attend shows to stay on the cutting edge of home interior design.
