Residents need to examine water treatment proposal
The village of Hinsdale is planning to build a water treatment facility in our newest $8 million dollar park.

As residents, it is our responsibility to understand the plans our village makes. The important aspect of all decisions is to consider the cost and benefits not only in the short term but in the long term as well. This project has been chosen because it is the least expensive but not necessarily the best long-term.

There are serious flooding/drainage problems throughout Hinsdale due to several issues from the past. I’m pretty certain that a water treatment facility in one of our parks is not the only answer. Do we really think the village of Hinsdale can handle managing and maintaining a sewage treatment facility long term?

Consider the effects of this facility on our park, our environment, the safety of our children, the smell this facility will exude to the north, south and west and ultimately, that it will not solve all the problems. Please ask questions of our village, become aware of the plans so you can help keep our town safe and sound. We need to understand the other options that would not get our town into the sewage business and would better serve our flooding/drainage problems throughout town.

Please come to the resident meeting  June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Village Hall to hear more about this facility and the options available or contact the Village directly.

Election turnout is not ‘groundswell’ of support
As a former Democrat who saw the light, I observe that the May 16 article about Democrats in DuPage has the same false spin regarding the fact that there was a larger turnout for the Democratic Primary, and this indicates a groundswell of support for them in DuPage County.

The facts are firstly: Primary turnouts are typically low, and the Democratic primary generated more interest for them. Nothing in the primary reflects on the general election. It is true that more Democrats have been moving into DuPage, but it is hardly a groundswell of support.

Secondly: DuPage voters are highly educated and intelligent and tend to be more independent. They do, however, tend to share the qualities of Republicans: Family values, respect for life, wanting smaller government and more personal responsibility, protecting and defending the Constitution as written by the founders, protecting religious freedom, maintaining the core values which make this country great and keeping our families safe.

This is why Republicans keep being elected to the County Board. Fact is, even with some faults, this County Board has reduced government and been responsible. These Democrats would turn DuPage into another Chicago, Cook County or State of Illinois form of corrupt government.
