The list of 2009 Hinsdale Assembly debutantes and honor guard members has been released.
All proceeds for the annual debutante ball — scheduled for Dec. 23 — will go toward the purchase of digital mammography equipment for Adventist Hinsdale Hospital.
The debutante ball began in 1963 in support of the hospital, said Lex Buddig, chairwoman of the event.
“Since then we have chosen the hospital to be our recipient donor, and over the years the assembly has raised more than $2 million for the hospital,” Buddig said.
Debutantes participate in a year-long program of community service projects, events and activities, culminating with the ball, which will take place at the Marriott Oak Brook Hills Resort.
In February, the group took part in an event in which debutantes and their fathers traveled to the Lawndale area of Chicago to renovate a halfway house used by women parolees, Buddig said.
“It was a lot of focused, hard work, insulating areas of the home, cleaning, painting and making improvements,” Buddig said.
Each year the group votes on the specific program it targets for donations at the hospital.
“Recently we have been donating to the purchase of digital mammography equipment for Adventist Hinsdale Hospital,” Buddig said.
High school seniors are invited to participate every January. This year 23 women took part in the program, and 31 women have accepted invitations to participate next year, Buddig said.
