Hinsdale Township High School District 86 plans to introduce the two veteran educators who will replace outgoing Principal Kevin Pobst at a special “meet and greet” this summer.

During the  School Board meeting Monday, officials announced the appointments of Tom Paulsen and Frank Kesman, who will jointly replace Pobst, who is leaving to take over as principal at Naperville North High School.

Paulsen, who is retired, has 25 years experience in education, including 21 years at Naperville Central High School — 13 as principal and as assistant principal — according to a release issued by District 86.

Kesman, also retired, served as the principal at St. Charles North High School from 2000-05, when he retired. Prior to that he served as assistant principal at Naperville North High School for 23 years.

“Both men have a great deal of experience, which will serve them well as we conduct a national search for a permanent replacement,” District 86 Superintendent Nicholas Wahl said.

Paulsen said he is excited to share the duties with Kesman.

“Frank and I know each other from working at the two Naperville high schools over the years, and although we will be two people in one position, we will be of one mind,” Paulsen said.

Because of restrictions in the Teacher Retirement System, retired individuals can work no more than 120 days per calendar year, Wahl said.

“It is important to note that we plan to expend no more than what is budgeted for a full-time principal,” Wahl said.

The base salary paid to Pobst in 2008-09 is $146,000, Wahl said.

According to School Board President Dennis Brennan, a national search will be conducted by a professional search firm beginning later this summer. The timing of Pobst’s announcement in March did not leave enough time to conduct a very thorough search, he added.
