Nearly 80 years since opening its doors on Dec. 25, 1928, the Tivoli Theatre in Downers Grove, is recognized by the American Institute of Architecture (AIA) as one of the 150 Great Places in Illinois. Presenting a plaque recently to be displayed in the historic theatre’s lobby were AIA Association Manager Ed Matz and Downers Grove resident Steve Rhodes, second vice president of the Northwest Illinois AIA Chapter, who were joined by Tivoli Theatre owners and Classic Cinemas founders Willis and Shirley Johnson.
