It took longer than originally planned, but Lyons Township's football team finally earned its first victory of 2008.
The Lions accomplished the feat thanks to some big defensive plays in the fourth quarter, holding on to beat host Oak Park-River Forest 7-6 Saturday. The Lions lone score came off a 22-yard run from quarterback Ryan Mitchell with 4:12 to go in the first quarter.
That score answered the Huskies, who scored just 1:52 in, but missed the extra point. The Huskies were then driving in the fourth quarter before a sack from Matt Polega dropped the Huskies back to the 16 after being inside the 10. After an incomplete pass, Oak Park missed the go-ahead field goal attempt.
