A dominating performance from Nazareth's defense helped lead to a 24-7 win over Benet Friday night in Lisle in an East Suburban Catholic Conference matchup.
The Roadrunner (4-1, 2-1) defense held Benet (1-4, 0-1) to just 72 total yards, while the Nazareth offense held possession for 31 minutes, 18 seconds, giving Benet just 16 minutes, 42 seconds to work with.
Nazareth went up 7-0 early in the second quarter on a 24-yard pass from Adam Marske to La Steven McKinney. Benet tied it at 7-7 on a 7-yard pass from Jimmy Riley to Mike Vanchieri, but Nazareth took a 14-7 lead to the break thanks to a 2-yard run from McKinney.
Nazareth led 17-7 when it appeared Benet finally got things going. However, after consecutive first downs, Steve Murphy intercepted a pass and returned it 62 yards to put Nazareth up 24-7.
