A Chicago woman has been cited in the May 19 fatal accident that killed a Countryside woman crossing 47th Street with her two children.

Mary McPhillips, 45, of Chicago was ticketed for failure to exercise due care to a pedestrian and improper lane usage, according to La Grange police

Police reported that “the finishing pieces of information have been received and analyzed” leading to two tickets being issued. McPhillips was driving an SUV that struck Cari Cook, 31, of the Countryside as the mother of two stopped in the curb lane to lift a stroller carrying her 2-year-old daughter Ellie  over the curb.

Cook’s 4-month-old son, Carson, who was in a carrier strapped to his mother’s chest, suffered a fractured leg. Ellie Cook was uninjured.

The investigation was conducted by La Grange police, the Illinois State Police, Cook County Sheriff’s Office and the Cook County State’s Attorneys Office.

There was no evidence that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, La Grange police said. State investigators found no mechanical defects or roadway deficiencies that were contributory factors.
