NIU School of Theatre and Dance to host memorial for Christopher Markle

A memorial gathering will be held in honor of Northern Illinois University School of Theatre and Dance professor Christopher Markle at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in the O’Connell Theatre on the DeKalb campus.
Markle died this past summer at the age of 53. He started at NIU in 1998 as a teacher and as the artistic director of the school’s professional company, SummerNite. In 2004, he was promoted to head of performance. He was a beloved member of the NIU family, said the school.
“There will be people from Professor Markle’s past who will speak about his work,” said Alexander Gelman, director of the NIU School of Theater and Dance. “The evening is planned as a celebration of Christopher Markle’s life.”
