Last year, Lisa Wenthen made a resolution to lose weight and successfully dropped 35 pounds.

This year, the 28-year-old from Glen Ellyn has continued making resolutions to lose 20 more pounds and set goals for pushing herself to do even more.

“I’ve been running a lot more since last year,” she said. “I’m on a 12-week running plan to do a half marathon.”

Wenthen hopes run a half marathon in March and possibly compete in a full marathon in October.

Her goal-setting started last year after she decided she wanted to lose weight she gained after a bad break-up.

“The diet is the hard part... so (I) enter (my) diet and exercise into a booklet,” she said. “I’m trying to stick to more protein and less carbs.”

Five days a week, Wenthen works out at HealthTrack Sports and Wellness with Sue Gambla, a personal trainer who’s been at the fitness center for six years.

“I’m hoping to wear a bikini by the (summer,)” she said. “If not, I’ll still lose at least 10 to 15 pounds by summer and I’ll still be happy.”

She started working out with Gambla almost a year ago.

“(Gambla) saw me and I was working out on the elliptical,” Wenthen said. “She came up to me and started pushing buttons and said, ‘Now you’re working out.’ She gives me that extra push,"

In addition to sticking to a diet, Wenthen said holding herself accountable is important and is one of the most difficult aspects of losing weight.

“For a while over the holidays, I got used to not working out on the weekends... but sticking to the plan (is important,)” she said. “If I have a plan mapped out, I can stick to it.

“You have to hold yourself accountable,” she added. “If I don't lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks, it’s me that is to blame.”
