Two suspects have been charged and taken into custody in connection with a home invasion and shooting that occurred in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, Oct. 23.
Alejandro Roman, 18, of the 2500 block of Spaulding Ave., Chicago and James Kral, 20, of the 22W400 block of Cherry Lane in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, were both charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and one count of Home Invasion.
It was around 2 a.m., Oct. 23, when the suspects allegedly broke into a home on the 800 block of Busch Road and shot a 20-year-old woman and 23-year-old man. Police responded to the scene after a 911 call from a resident who said a man had been shot.
The two victims were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. The Sheriff’s Department has still not released the victims' names. A third victim of the break-in, a 24-year-old man, did not need medical attention.
According to DuPage County Sheriff John Zaruba's office, Roman and Kral, who are admittedly members of the Latin King gang, believed there were drugs in the residence.
Both suspects are being held in the DuPage County Jail on $1 million bond.
A statement issued by Zaruba's office says that Roman and Kral's apprehension was the result of an intensive investigation by sheriff's detectives and the sheriff's Gang Crimes Unit.
Last fall, Kral and his brother Charles received probation by a DuPage County judge, after they pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm. The brothers fired a shotgun at a Glendale Heights home on the 400 block of Winthrop Avenue, after someone with whom they had argued ran inside.
At the time, Circuit Judge John Kinsella warned the Krals that because they are now convicted felons, if they are found to possess a firearm, they will face more severe penalties. "I apologize for my actions," James Kral said at the time, adding that Kinsella would not see him again until his final court date in three years.
Detectives are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 630-407-2400.
