A report from the Glen Ellyn Economic Development Corporation shows the village’s retail occupancy stands at 88 percent — down slightly from 89 percent in 2011.

“Occupancy rates have held their own during the challenges of this economy, and there has been very positive activity in key business areas,” said Janie Patch, executive director of the Glen Ellyn EDC.

Patch noted that six prominent spaces on Main Street were filled last year, and the number of retained businesses grew from 171 in 2008 to 177, an increase of 3.5 percent.

The Roosevelt Road corridor has an overall occupancy of 89 percent, according to a release from the EDC.

“The big story on Roosevelt Road is the signing of a purchase contract on the former Webb Dodge location,” Patch said. “This has been a priority for redevelopment and the plan to bring in the Fresh Market is a promising sign for the future.”

Stacy’s Corners is also expecting change as the village prepares to solicit proposals for redevelopment of the southeast corner of the property, which it purchased last year.

The annual report is available online at www.glenellynedc.com.
