The Rev. David Davis and his family were living in a suburb of Houston, Texas, when they decided it was time for a move.
During his search for a new home, Davis stumbled upon the Parkview Community Church, which was looking for an executive pastor. After a couple of conversations with the church’s senior pastor the Rev. Ray Kollbocker, Davis and his family decided Glen Ellyn was the place for them.
“I came in April,” Davis said. His family then followed by moving to the area in June. “You know, I love the community. We have found ourselves on a great street with great people, and I really have enjoyed being a Glen Ellyn resident.”
As executive pastor of the Parkview Community Church, Davis oversees the day-to-day operations of the church. But he said being a pastor is really a 24-hour-per-day and seven-day-a-week job.
“It is incredibly awarding but it is also something that can be incredibly stretching,” he said.
“Working in a church, working with people is a messy business because people have messy lives. Parkview is what I like to call a ‘come as you are’ church.”
The church’s generosity was what attracted Davis most.
“Parkview, on any given Sunday, there are 20 or so DuPage County homeless that call Parkview their church. And they are fully integrated into Parkview’s church family.”
Notable
When in Texas, Davis volunteered as the chaplain for his local fire department. He is now in the process of becoming the chaplain for the Glen Ellyn Fire Department.
