Firetrucks responded to a blaze Friday afternoon at Meadows of Glen Ellyn, an assisted-living center on Nicoll Way near Newton Park in Glen Ellyn.
No one was injured by the fire, which originated after 1 p.m. in a clothes dryer. Employees put out the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher before firefighters arrived, said Chief Scott Raffensparger of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Co.
“Our job has been to evacuate smoke and residue of dry chem extinguisher,” he said.
Raffensparger said he suspects the fire originated from something placed inside the dryer rather than, for instance, an unclean lint trap.
Three fire engines and two ambulances responded to the emergency, which partially blocked traffic along DuPage Boulevard and Nicoll Way.
Fire engines from Wheaton and Carol Stream were called in to staff Glen Ellyn fire houses during the emergency, and Oak Brook provided an ambulance in case another call came in.
