Glen Ellyn, IL -

After nearly 15 years of work with the village, Glen Ellyn’s Clerk and Collector Andrea Draths is resigning.

A news release issued by the village said Draths’ last day as collector will be Friday, Nov. 20 and she will formally resign from the position of clerk within the next 60 days.

Draths was elected clerk in 2005 and re-elected to the same office earlier this year. She previously served 10 years as a part-time administrative clerk.

“Certainly it was not my intention to not fulfill my term at that time,” Draths said. “Now is a possible opportunity for the village of Glen Ellyn to evaluate whether or not they want to separate (the positions of clerk and collector).”

Draths said she has the utmost respect for the Village President Mark Pfefferman and the board and what they are working to accomplish for the village.

“I believe it is in my best interest for me and my family to leave at this time,” Draths said. “And it certainly has been my pleasure and honor to serve the village of Glen Ellyn.”

The village board will appoint an acting village clerk to fill in until the next municipal election in 2011. The person elected in 2011 will then serve two years until the 2013 election. The winner of the 2013 election will serve a 4-year term.

If the board decides to separate the positions of clerk and collector, trustees would appoint someone to take over Draths' clerk duties and Village Manager Steve Jones would hire someone to take on the full-time duties of a collector.

Pfefferman said the board would like to make a decision as quickly as possible, and will seek Jones recommendations soon. Pfefferman said the board should also seek an opinion on how to proceed from the village attorney.

“We’ll miss Andrea personally and professionally,” he said. “She always approached her job with the most professional manner, but also coupled with genuine enthusiasm and courtesy with every one she came in contact with.”
