Glen Ellyn School District 41 board members voted to dispose of more than 100 surplus computers and other materials, Monday night during the board of education's regular meeting.
Mike Wood, the district's director of technology, said the district needs to make room for new computers. He said that upgrading the computers is a "nominal investment" compared to buying new machines.
"A lot of that equipment is 8 years old. It's at least 8 to 9 years old. The value of that equipment at this point in time is minimal."
Wood said the district will donate most of the computers to the People's Resource Center in Wheaton, as it has for some years now.
The district also gives computers to Waucanda Community Unit School District 118 in eastern McHenry County and western Lake County. Wood said that district 118 refurbishes the computers.
