First there was Julia Roberts and now, Larry the Cable Guy.
The popular Southern comedian will be coming to Glen Ellyn early next month to shoot scenes for his latest movie, “Witless Protection,” in downtown Glen Ellyn. Village officials approved the shoot at a meeting Monday night, said Glen Ellyn Police Chief Phil Norton.
Larry plays a small town deputy sheriff who sees a young woman he believes is being kidnapped only to find that she’s a star witness for the FBI and in the federal witness protection program, according to Parallel Entertainment, the movie’s production company.
“They were looking for a picturesque American hometown feel,” said Assistant Village Manager Curt Barrett, who interviewed the movie’s production team about the story last Friday before the village gave the project its blessing.
Barrett said the village wanted to be certain that the scenes with Glen Ellyn as the backdrop reflects the town in a positive light before giving its approval.
Filming is expected to start Wednesday, June 6, at the corner of Crescent Boulevard and Main Street, Barrett said.
Vehicle traffic will be blocked off but pedestrian traffic won’t be, he said.
The production team will film a parade scene in Glen Ellyn while also shooting other parts of the movie in Chicago, Barrett said.
While the company is still casting for the picture, Jenny McCarthy is tentatively slated to star in it as well, he said.
