Glendale Heights police officer Janelle Marcellis, who had recently been on paid leave after a shooting inside her Wayne home, was charged with driving under the influence Sunday in Glen Ellyn, according to police.
Marcellis was charged with driving under the influence at about 3:19 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Interstate 355, according to Glen Ellyn police. Marcellis was accompanied by two other people, who were not charged, Glen Ellyn Deputy Police Chief Bill Holmer said.
Glendale Heights Police Chief Michael Marron said Marcellis was placed on administrative paid leave Monday after his department learned of the DUI charges. Marron said his department is waiting to receive more information from Glen Ellyn police, and “then take whatever action is necessary at (that) point.”
According to reports, Janelle Marcellis and her twin sister Jennifer Marcellis, also a Glendale Heights police officer, were put on paid leave when Jennifer was shot in her arm Jan. 30 by a Carol Stream woman after an early morning argument inside the Wayne home the sisters shared.
The sisters returned to administrative duty March 1, and both were placed back on paid leave Monday.
Marron said Jennifer Marcellis is on paid administrative leave for an internal matter that is under investigation, which is not related to January’s incident in her home. He declined to elaborate on the reason Jennifer Marcellis was placed back on paid leave this week.
