Glen Ellyn, IL -

Residents are invited to attend a community forum to learn more about Glen Ellyn School District 41’s bond referendum on the Tuesday, April 17, ballot to expand and renovate its schools.
District 41 officials said that schools are overcrowded. The district houses nearly 600 children (15 percent of its enrollment) in 26 portable classrooms; libraries, gyms, lunchrooms, bathrooms and hallways are at or near capacity. If the referendum measure passes, by the time this building project is complete, it will have been 12 years since the schools were enlarged.
The $40 million bond referendum would allow the district to expand its schools and make needed renovations to existing space, officials said. The bulk of the project would be at Hadley Junior High. The school, which now serves students in sixth through eighth grades, would be enlarged to accommodate the fifth grades.
To learn more, come to one of the three forums listed:
• Friday, March 2, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Churchill School, 240 Geneva Road, Glen Ellyn. This morning session offers onsite baby-sitting upon request; call Nancy Mogk at (630) 790-7243 with the number of children attending. Because it’s an institute day and school is not in session, parking will be available in the school parking lot;
• Thursday, March 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hadley Junior High School, 240 Hawthorne Blvd., Glen Ellyn; and
• Tuesday, March 13, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln School, 380 Greenfield Ave., Glen Ellyn.
Topics include how space is used today, why additional space is needed to meet changing needs, an overview of the construction and educational concept and timeline, and details on the cost to taxpayers. Information is available online at www.d41.org/referendum. Residents may e-mail questions and comments to referendum@d41.org.
