The Federal Emergency Management Agency is adjusting the operating hours of its disaster recovery center based on an examination of the center’s first week of operation.
The center in DuPage County, as well as others in the region, will now be open only from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The centers will be closed Sundays.
About 400 DuPage residents have registered with FEMA and more than 90 people have visited the center, with 53 of those being from DuPage County, since it opened Oct. 7, county officials said.
The center is located in the second floor cafeteria of the DuPage County administration building, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. Those planning to attend should park on the top floor of the north parking deck and enter via the walkway.
Prior to visiting the center, residents and businesses should register with FEMA. Those in the counties designated for assistance (Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, LaSalle and Will) can begin the disaster application process by registering online at www.fema.gov or by calling (800) 621-FEMA or (800) 462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired.
