The city of Geneva announced its Electric Load Reduction Program, which will alert customers when peak hours are predicted by the city.
Electric prices fluctuate, with prices sometimes going as high as five times the normal amount during peak hours.
The Geneva Generation Facility was built as a way to offset peaks by supplying energy to the city instead of buying it off the market.
Residents who want to participate should reduce their electricity use by any amount during those hours.
The program is voluntary. There is no need to keep track of or report reductions.
Residents who want to participate can e-mail loadreduction@geneva.il.us and submit their e-mail address. E-mails will be sent out when peaks are predicted to occur.
For information on the program, call Bob Frantz, project engineer of the electric division, at (630) 232-1503.
