Geneva, IL -

Sunday's Kane County Cougars game against the Peoria Chiefs will be noted as Cancer Survivors Day.

It will be a day-long celebration of cancer survivors and their families who have courageously battled any type of cancer in their lives.

First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. but a pre-game victory lap parade for survivors and their families will begin at 12:15 p.m. After the victory lap survivors and their families will have a chance to meet Cougars' players for autographs and photos.

As part of the festivities a ceremonial tree will be planted during the game, with survivors invited to help pitch in a shovel full of dirt.

The color purple, recognized as the universal color of all types of cancer, will be a focal point of the afternoon as Cougars players and coaches will wear commemorative purple jerseys. Fans attending the game are also encouraged to wear purple to the ballpark that day.

“We look forward to sharing a special day with cancer survivors and their families on June 7 at Elfstrom Stadium,” Cougars Assistant General Manager Jeff Ney said. “It’s through events like these where people can come together and share memories of a loved one who has courageously battled any type of cancer.”

Tickets are still available for the June 7 game and can be reserved by calling the Cougars at (630) 232-8811 or visiting www.kccougars.com .
