The St. Charles East High School Band has taken a new approach to its fundraising.
The Band Boosters will auction off a chance to direct the school’s marching band at the group’s annual concert Thursday, Oct. 2, with an eBay listing. The listing will open Monday, Sept. 15, and will close Sunday, Sept. 21.
The winner of the auction will choose a Big Ten fight song for the band to play.
“It’ll benefit us by giving us resources to pass on to students,” band director Jim Kull said.
Proceeds will go toward purchasing musical equipment, uniform repairs and help fund special guests, including visits from collegiate band directors and composers. Members of the DePaul University jazz band are scheduled to make a visit in March.
The winner will go through a short training session the week before the concert. In the past, the band has raffled chances to lead the band in the Saints fight song.
Kim Walters, booster club president, hopes the auction will help build excitement for the marching band concert. During the event, the band, drill team and color guard will honor its seniors and play music from football game performances.
“It’s a great learning experience for students,” Walters said.
The band will follow up the concert with a Tuesday, Oct. 21, jazz band concert.
