Geneva, IL -

Students at Coultrap and Harrison Street elementary schools will end the school year earlier than their fellow Geneva Community Unit School District 304 peers.

School Board members unanimously approved the early closings for the two elementary schools at the May 19 meeting to provide teachers and staff adequate time to pack up the buildings.

Students at Coultrap and Harrison will end the school year after a half-day of school Friday, May 30, while the rest of Geneva students will remain in attendance Friday afternoon and the morning of Monday, June 2.

The Coultrap community is moving to Williamsburg Elementary School, a replacement school located at 1812 Williamsburg Ave.

The Harrison Street community is being moved to the Coultrap building for the 2008-09 school year while major renovations are completed at Harrison.

“This provision by the Board of Education provides support to our staff at both Coultrap and Harrison Street in this very unique situation,” said Superintendent Kent Mutchler. “This is an excellent way to minimize any loss of instructional time with a show of support for our staff.  Like most everything that educators do, there will be many hours spent by staff outside of the regular school day to make these transitions successful for students.”

The moves from both buildings are scheduled to begin June 2 and end by June 16.
