Geneva, IL -

After three decades with the Geneva Police Department, Geneva police Lt. Joe Frega is putting away the badge.

“Thirty years is a long time,” he said. “The time has come for me to move on.”

As for what moving on might entail, Frega has a few ideas.

“I have no plans other than to enjoy life, play some golf, do some fishing and spend time with my family,” the Geneva resident said.

His last day with the Geneva Police Department is July 18.

Earlier this month, Geneva police Cmdr. Steve Mexin took over for outgoing Chief William Kidwell, who retired after 35 years on the force.

“It’s time for me to let the new regime take over,” Frega said. “I’ve enjoyed (working for the police department) immensely. It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the residents of Geneva for the past 30 years.”
