• St. Charles Bank & Trust is celebrating the groundbreaking of its permanent St. Charles location at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 425 W. Main St. The bank is housed in a temporary location at 311 N. Second St. Scheduled to open in early 2009, the new facility will have two drive-through lanes and safe deposit boxes. • The winner of the logo design contests for the 175th Anniversary Celebration in St. Charles has been decided. Open to professional graphic designers, marketing professionals and print professionals in St. Charles, the contest ended Aug. 15. The winning design was submitted by Phil Studdard of Flip Designs Studio Inc., and was unveiled at an awards ceremony during the St. Charles City Council meeting on Sept. 2. • “Let’s Go, Scarecrow! — Thinking Outside the Field,” the next session of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership’s Business Development Breakfast series, will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Baker Community Center in St. Charles. A light breakfast is provided at every session in the series. Each session in the business development series is free to Partnership members and costs $20 per person for nonmembers. • The St. Charles East Band department is auctioning the unique opportunity to direct the St. Charles East marching band at the Marching Band Concert Thursday, Oct. 2. Winning bidder will direct their choice of a Big Ten fight song in its entirety. The marching band will learn and practice the fight song designated by the winning bidder for their annual October Marching Band Concert, scheduled this year Thursday, Oct. 2. All proceeds of this auction will go to the St. Charles East Band Boosters to help offset the various costs associated with the band. The Band Boosters will list the auction for this opportunity on the auction Web site www.ebay.com. The listing will begin the week of Monday, Sept. 15 with bids closing on Sunday, Sept. 21.
