Achievements

• Lauren Keblusek of St. Charles spent two weeks this summer studying symphony at Birch Creek Music Performance Center in Door County, Wis. Ms. Keblusek is the daughter of Michael and Susan Keblusek and studies cello privately with Ann Griffin. She was among only 54 young musicians selected from throughout the country to attend the symphony session at the prestigious school, whose unique mission is to provide intensive, performance-based instruction to promising young musicians age 14 to 18 by immersing them in a professional, mentoring environment.

• Max McKittrick of Batavia was invited to attend the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy as a member of the class of 2010. IMSA is an internationally recognized educational institution that offers a uniquely challenging education for Illinois students in grades 10 to 12 talented in the areas of mathematics and science.

• Students named on the North Central College dean's list for 2007 spring term include Kassi Cork of Geneva, Megan Hahns of Geneva, Andrew Stredde of Geneva, Rachel Covarrubias of Geneva and Rachel Mitchell of Wayne.

• Annaluisa Difruscolo of Wayne, a pre-physical therapy student, has been named to the dean’s list at Carroll College for the spring 2007 semester. Difruscolo is a 2006 graduate of Driscoll High School and daughter of Giovanni and Carmela Difruscolo of Wayne.

• Jacob Snow of St. Charles has been awarded a $1,250 scholarship by Covenant Retirement Communities to put toward his college education. Snow plans to begin his studies this summer at Elgin Community College and transfer to Loyola University in Chicago to pursue a degree in nursing, with jazz studies at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. The scholarship is one of eight awarded by Covenant Retirement Communities to provide post-high school scholarships to dependents of its employees.  Snow’s parents both work at The Holmstad, Batavia; his father, Ken, is the fitness facilitator and his mother, Deb, is the housekeeping supervisor.

• Alex Desimone of St. Charles was named to the spring's dean's list 2007 at Bradley University's Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts, where he is pursuing a degree in theater production. He also received Slane College's Award in Excellence in Production. Desimone is a 2005 graduate of St. Charles East High School.

Graduates

• More than 5,300 students received degrees during the University of Wisconsin-Madison's spring commencement ceremonies, May 19-20. Graduates from Geneva are Lauren Barker, Kelly Carroll, David Francis, Ryan Gallentine and Robert O’Brien. Students from St. Charles are Egle Cepaitis, Grant Jacobsen, Laura Williams, Erik Yusko, Kevin Caloia, Matthew Cameron, Christopher Hanson, Laura Himrod, Katherine Johnson, Lindsay McGaan, John Meister and Stephen Schlereth.

• Three St. Charles students were awarded bachelor of arts degrees June 10 by Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis.
Martin Alwin, son of Nongnuj Pirojboot, St. Charles, earned a degree in economics. Alwin also was named to the 2006-07 Lawrence University dean's list for maintaining a minimum 3.4 grade-point average. Matthew Osland, son of Paul and Gloria Osland, St. Charles, earned a degree in government. Alwin and Osland are both 2003 graduates of St. Charles North High School. Kate Ostler, daughter of James and Kathleen Ostler, St. Charles, earned a degree in studio art. She is a 2003 graduate of Rosary High School, Aurora.

• Ann Vestal of St. Charles was awarded a veterinary medicine degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater at the end of the 2007 spring session.

Honors

• DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., recognized a 1967 graduate, Craig Stokely of Wayne, for his outstanding community service and presented him with a 2007 Community Leadership Award during DePauw’s alumni reunion weekend in June 2007.

• Elizabeth Wiesolek has been commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force after completing the Air Force ROTC program and graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Lewis University, Romeoville. She is the daughter of Richard and Debbie Wiesolek of St. Charles. Wiesolek is a 2003 graduate of Grayslake High School.

• Central DuPage Hospital’s Auxiliary recently awarded $35,000 in scholarships to 18 local high school, college and medical school students interested in pursuing a career in health care. Scholarships were awarded to students attending a college, university, graduate or medical school program in the fall of 2007. Applicants were required to document academic excellence, plan to pursue a career in health care and live within Central DuPage Hospital’s service area. Area college students awarded scholarships included Jason Carroll and Paul Lukac of St. Charles.
