Jewelry taken from home
K* cpA home in the 1900 block of South Grove Avenue was burglarized as the homeowner was having a dinner party Oct. 23.
The homeowner told officers various pieces of gold jewelry were stolen from his home as he was hosting a dinner party at the home at about 9:50 p.m. Oct. 23.
Items reported stolen include a a gold bracelet, three diamond rings and a pair of diamond earrings valued at a total of $3,650, police said.

Man charged with DUI
A man was charged with drunken driving after a hit-and-run accident Oct. 24.
Officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Cuyler Avenue at about 2:50 a.m. to a report of a crash. Officers found five cars damaged. Witnesses told police a man crashed his car into the parked car, checked for damage, and headed northbound Cuyler Avenue, police said.
Officers found a license plate at the scene of the crash belonging to a woman in the 3500 block of South Cuyler, police said. When they arrived at the home, officers were told by James Jackowiec, 19, of Berwyn that two men crashed into his mother’s car and he attempted to chase them, police said.
Police detected alcohol on Jackowiec’s breath and brought him to the scene of the crash where he was positively identified by both witnesses of the crash, police said.
Jackowiec was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage and leaving the scene of an accident.

Home burglarized
A home in the 1300 block of South Grove Avenue was reported burglarized Oct. 26.
Officers were dispatched to the report of a residential burglary at about 11:15 p.m. Oct. 26. When they arrived, a neighbor told police he heard a loud noise and saw three men attempting to kick in the side door of the home, but did not call police right away because he thought it may have been a family relative trying to get into the home, police said.
Items reported stolen include three video game systems, two computer monitors, a digital camera, $800 in cash and various jewelry, police said. Police have no suspects in custody for the incident.
