TV stolen from home
A 50-inch LG plasma television was stolen from a home in the 1400 block of South Wisconsin Avenue between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Aug. 27, police said.

The victim told police she returned home to find someone had pried open the back door. The home had been ransacked, and she suspects jewelry may also be missing from the bedroom, police said.

Man reports assault
An unknown man repeatedly punched a Berwyn man as he was walking home at about 1 a.m. Aug. 28, police said.

The victim told police he was walking to the 1600 block of South Wesley Avenue from 16th Street Liquors when the man exited a red van and began punching him. He was able to break free of the attack, and the assailant got back into the van and fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The victim was not able to provide police with a detailed description of his attacker.

Flowers reported taken
A resident in the 2500 block of South Oak Park Avenue told police an unknown woman comes to her property every day between noon and 1 p.m. and picks flowers from her front yard, police said.

The woman said her flowers are damaged in the process and asked to sign a theft complaint if an arrest is made, police said. A detailed description of the offender was not available.

Police: Man had fake gun
A Berwyn man was charged with disorderly conduct after he pulled a toy gun from his pocket while an officer was attempting to question him at about 12:30 p.m. Aug. 28, police said.

Officers were called to the alley behind Burger King, 6701 W. Roosevelt Road, after a caller reported seeing a man with a gun in his back pocket. When officers arrived, they found a man fitting the description and ordered him to put his hands up.

The man, later identified as Baltazar Ochoa, 49, of the 1300 block of South Scoville Avenue, reached into his back pocket and pulled a small pistol out. The officer was able to kick the pistol from Ochoa’s hand and handcuff him.

The gun was later determined to be a toy. Ochoa was arrested and charged with a local ordinance violation of disorderly conduct.

Retail theft alleged
A woman was charged with felony retail theft and obstruction after she gave police a false name while being questioned in connection with a retail theft, police said.

Shetone Dunlap, 40, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Aug. 28 after employees at Marshalls, 7163 Cermak Road, witnessed Dunlap hide merchandise under her shirt and attempt to leave the store, police said. Dunlap was found to have $95 worth of merchandise under her shirt and then admitted to having additional items hidden in her girdle, according to police.

Officers searched Dunlap and found $58 worth of additional hidden merchandise, police said.

After her arrest, Dunlap told police her name was Linda Wright. Her identity was discovered after a fingerprint check, which also revealed a previous retail theft conviction and an outstanding warrant from the Cicero Police Department, police said.

She was charged with felony retail theft and obstruction a police officer.
