A 30-year-old Bellwood man in Berwyn to visit his girlfriend reportedly was robbed at gunpoint before he even stepped out of his car.
The man told police he parked his car at about 10 p.m. Sept. 23 in the 1500 block of south Grove Avenue and hadn’t stepped from the car when a man brandishing a dark-colored handgun stepped up to his door and demanded he open it, according to Berwyn police reports. After the suspect ordered the victim to open the door a second time, the victim unlocked it, and the suspect opened the door. Then a second suspect opened the passenger-side door, according to police reports.
This second suspect rifled through the glove box, pulled out the car’s stereo and took the man’s wallet and Blackberry Pearl cell phone before fleeing. The first suspect demanded the victim remove his earring and hand over his car keys. The suspect then threw the keys in a front yard, according to police reports. The second suspect fled after he told the victim to count to 20 and not call police.
The suspects left in a dark-colored car, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu. The first suspect is described as a dark-skinned black man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5-foot-8 with a thin build and a “5 o’clock shadow,” sporting a graying goatee, wearing a black baseball cap and blue T-shirt and brandishing a handgun, according to police reports.
The second suspect is described as a light-skinned black man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a red skull cap with a white shirt and gray pants, according to police reports.
