More than 30 classic cars and a handful of motorcycles motored down to Berwyn's Depot District tonight for this year's first Cruise Nite.

The event, sponsored by the Berwyn Development Corporation and the new Berwyn Kia will hold five more events throughout the summer.

George Beranek, who grew up in Berwyn but now lives in Homer Glen, brought his 1970 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS with a 396 big block engine back to it's old stomping ground. Beranek has owned the car since he was a junior at Fenwick High School in 1974.

He drove the car up until the early 80's, when he decided to store it in his mother's three-car garage. He had the care repainted and the engine rebuilt in the early 90's, and has been cruising the classic car scene ever since.

Like many classic car enthusiasts, Beranek struggled with keeping the classic stock

“I decided to restore it back to 1974 – the way I had it in high school – rather than 1970, so some purists may not like it,” said Beranek. “But it's stock enough as far as I'm concerned.”

Cruise Nites will continue on intermittent Tuesday's throughout the summer, including June 21, July 5, July 19, August 16, and August 30.
