Boys soccer
The Trojans had a day of rest between games, in a busy week that features four soccer games. Homewood-Flossmoor, a Class 3A opponent has been a steady non-conference opponent for the past number of years, and matches typically feature a physical style of play. While Monday's game didn't feature the normal physicality, the game did leave the Trojans hanging on at the end. Team Captain Jeb Nash scored the opening goal off of a perfectly executed set piece, with an assist to his co-captain Jake Schemper. Nash crossed a beautiful line-drive to the near post that was slammed home by a perfectly timed Jon Voss run. TC would need the insurance goal, as the Vikings rallied to score off of a set-piece rebound.
Jake Schemper finished off the scoring for the Trojans with a blast to the near post that ricocheted off of the keeper and into the net. The ambitious shot certainly merits attention for goal of the match, but then again all three goals were very well struck. On another disappointing goal allowed off of an unmarked cross, the Vikings rallied back again, but in the end the Trojans’ defense hung tough. Although the game was not played to the team's full potential, sometimes in a busy four-game week, a win is a win.
