ELMHURST, IL -

Glenbard East
With his total originally posted on the board as a 76, Jake Wass walked over to the scorer’s table and conceded that he had actually carded a 77 at the York Class 3A regional Tuesday at Oak Meadows Golf Course in Addison.

The senior’s great show of sportsmanship ended up not costing him at all as Wass later found out he had advanced as an individual to Monday’s St. Charles East Class 3A regional.

He finished in a tie for 12th place individually and was easily under the cutoff for qualifying, which turned out to be 81.

“I shot 34 on my front nine, which was the back-nine here,” Wass said. “I played really well and hit almost every green. When I got to the back, the weather started to change. It went from still to 30-mph winds. That affected me for the most part along with the pressure I was putting on myself.

“I was happy with how I played on the front and I would have liked to be four or five shots better on the back.”

The senior also made it to the sectional as an individual a year ago.

“It is nice,” he added. “It is what I really wanted to happen being a senior. It really was my only main goal, to make it to the sectional.

“My year has been up-and-down. I placed third at the Addison Trail Invite with a 73 and my stroke average has been somewhere around 38. But I’m happy with how the season has gone.”
As a team, the Rams finished in 10th place with a score of 363.

Alex Mika was next with a 92 while Eddie Mahay and Kevin Farrell each shot a 97. Ernie Santeralli (100) and Jordan Smith (106) also competed in the regional.

Immaculate Conception
Despite missing out on advancing to the sectional as a team by five strokes, the Knights will be represented next Monday at Edgebrook Golf course by three individuals.

IC finished with a stroke total of 347 at Tuesday’s Timothy Christian Class 1A regional held at Oak Brook Golf Course, which put them in fourth place. North Shore Country Day (331) won the team title with Latin (339) as the runner-up and St. Edward (342) grabbing the last qualifying spot.

Pat Haggerty led the way with an 81 which put him in a tie for fourth place. Tommy Hart was next with an 82 that placed him in a tie for sixth while Bryan Quinn advanced with a 91.

Chris Cheng rounded out the scoring with a 93. Matt Gaughan (94) and Mike Bosworth (105) also competed.

Timothy Christian
The Trojans came in 10th place at the Class 1A regional they hosted on Tuesday, finishing with a team score of 386.

The squad did have an individual move on to the sectional on Monday as sophomore Chris Ridolphi carded a 91, which proved to be the cut-off for advancement. Justin Vander Naald added a 95, Mike Hennel shot a 98 and Mike Karpman finished with a 102. Trevor Gorman (103) and Chris Szandzik (106) also competed.

Willowbrook
The Warriors finished in eighth place with a stroke total of 347 at the York Class 3A regional held Tuesday at Oak Meadows Golf Course in Addison.

The squad did not have any individuals advance to the sectional.

Troy Hurdelbrink and Doug Miceli topped the squad with scores of 85 while Logan Prossor carded an 86. Andy Voelker had a 91, Drew Dahl posted a 94 and Kyran Cahill finished with a 102.

Montini
Juniors Eric Lederman and Mike Davis will both be representing Montini at Monday’s Class 2A Wheaton Academy sectional. Lederman had a team-best score of 83 while Davis collected an 85.

Shane Quinlan was extremely close to qualifying, shooting an 86. Joe Taconi had a 91, Nick Skarek collected a 93 and Brendan Kitz added a 116.
