The Lombard Police Department has announced it will be conducting patrols throughout the Labor Day weekend to crack down on drunken drivers and will conduct a roadside safety checkpoint Friday, Sept. 5.
Police Chief Ray Byrne said officers will be especially vigilant during high-risk hours during the night when drunken drivers are likely to be on the road.
According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, 20 people were killed in motor-vehicle crashes over the Labor Day weekend last year in Illinois, with seven of the deaths involving a drunken driver.
