ELMHURST, IL -

Elmwood man charged

Elmhurst police said they arrested Thomas Villalego, 43, of Elmwood at about 6:30 p.m. May 21 at North Avenue and Indiana Street.

Police said they stopped Villalego’s vehicle for speeding and found him to be intoxicated and had a revoked driver’s license due to having a prior DUI. Police said Villalego failed sobriety tests and was arrested for driving with a revoked license and driving under the influence.

After being transported to the police station, two charges of felony aggravated driving under the influence and one felony charge of driving with a revoked license were approved. Villalego also was charged with speeding and was taken to DuPage County jail.

Air conditioner missing

Elmhurst police said the owner of the Silverado Grill, 447 S. Spring Road, reported that someone stole the business’s air-conditioning unit at about 9 a.m. May 21.

Police said that someone took the tan metal 1,000 pound air-conditioning unit that had been sitting on the ground outside the rear of the restaurant for the last several years.

The unit was valued at $2,000.

Police said there are no suspects in the incident.

Order of protection served

Elmhurst police said a routine traffic stop resulted in action for both the driver and passenger at about 7 p.m. May 19 in the 600 block of West Crockett.

Police said after stopping a vehicle for a defective windshield and suspended registration, the driver, Carlos Diaz, 38, of Bensenville was found to have a suspended driver’s license.

The car’s passenger, Juan Diaz, 40, of Bensenville was found to have an active order of protection out of DuPage County, which had not yet been served. Police said Juan Diaz was served a short form notification and released on the scene.

Police said Carlos Diaz was transported to the police station, where he was processed and cited for driving with a suspended license, suspended registration and having a defective windshield. Police said Carlos Diaz was released after posting a $3,000 bond.

Man arrested for DUI

Elmhurst police said they arrested a man on several charges, including driving under the influence, at about 2 a.m. May 19 at Lake Street and Grand Avenue.

Pedro Olguin, 20, of Addison was stopped due to driving without his vehicle’s headlights on, police said.

Police said Olguin was driving without a driver’s license or insurance and had consumed alcohol. Police said after being taken into custody, Olguin was charged with the above as well as zero tolerance and was released via I-Bond.

Dogs used to catch ‘artists’

A Villa Park police dog was used to help catch some teenagers at about 8 p.m. May 31 at the bike underpass at St. Charles and Salt Creek Road.

Police said they arrested a call of graffiti and upon arrival saw four suspects spray-painting the bike underpass. Police said after the suspects saw them, they all ran away. After setting up a perimeter, two of the suspects were located with the help of the Villa Park canine.

Anthony J. Santore, 17, of the 500 block of North Fairfield, Lombard, and Robin H. Nye, 17, of the 400 block of South Chase Avenue, Lombard, were charged with graffiti and prowling and were released via cash bonds. Police said they are investigating the other two suspects.

Cash stolen from store

Elmhurst police said Pauli’s Service Center, 260 N. York Road, reported that $500 cash was taken from its cash register between 4 and 4:30 p.m. June 1.

Police said a store employee reported that the money was removed from the register while an employee was assisting a repeat customer. Upon returning to help another customer at the register, he noticed the money was missing.

Woman arrested at traffic stop

Elmhurst police said they arrested Marie J. Velez, 24, of the 1100 block of Grove, Bensenville, at about 3:30 p.m. June 2.

Police said they pulled Velez’s vehicle over after observing it change lanes without signaling. After stopping the vehicle, Velez was arrested for being in possession of a small bag of marijuana.

Police said Velez was charged with failure to signal, not having a valid driver’s license, not having a valid driver’s license, not having insurance and possession of marijuana and was released via I-Bond.

Officials to speak to parent

Elmhurst police said several officials will talk to the mother of a Field Elementary School student after he was found walking alone at about 7:15 a.m. June 3.

Police said they responded to the area of Lake and Emroy after getting a call of a 6- to 7-year-old boy walking alone. Police spoke to the Field School principal, who told them they found him in the school parking lot around the same time.

Police said the boy said his mother had left for work and told him to walk to school. Upon the school contacting the mother, police said she hung up after stating, “I don’t have time for this.”

Police said a meeting between the mother, police and principal was set for June 4.

Police said the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services was contacted.

Lombard

Battery count filed

Willie Brown, 17, of Glendale Heights was charged with battery and resisting arrest at about 9:30 a.m. May 28 at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St., police said.

• Amin Jeilani, 17, of Glendale Heights was charged with battery at about 10 a.m. May 28 at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St., police said.

DUI charged

• Breanne Parker, 27, of Lombard was charged with drunken driving at about 2 a.m. May 29 at Main St. and Roosevelt Road, police said.

• Christian Alexander, 18, of Maywood was charged with drunken driving and underage drinking at about 3:15 a.m. May 29 at Highland Avenue and 13th Street, police said.

• Rasheed Watson, 28, of Chicago was charged with drunken driving at about 12:30 a.m. May 31 at Roosevelt Road and Lincoln Avenue, police said.

• Joe Yates, 39, of Glen Ellyn was charged with drunken driving at about 1 a.m. May 31 at Roosevelt Road and Finley Road, police said.

• Angela Ross, 37, of Chicago was charged with drunken driving at about 2:30 a.m. May 31 at Roosevelt Road and Edgewood Avenue, police said.

• Lecurtis Johnson, 47, of Westmont was charged with drunken driving at about 4:15 a.m. May 31 at Roosevelt and Westmore-Myers roads, police said.

• Silvio Caltenco Paz, 37, of Glen Ellyn was charged with drunken driving at about 12:45 a.m. June 1 in the 300 block of West Roosevelt Road, police said.

Items reported stolen

More than 100 steel casings valued at about $14,000 were taken at about 4:15 p.m. May 28 from Yingliu Casting, 1001 N. DuPage Ave., police said.

Retail theft charged

• Deborah Finley, 53, of Bellwood was charged with retail theft at about 1:15 p.m. May 29 at Carson’s, 230 Yorktown Shopping Center, police said.

• Erin Williams, 27, of Chicago was charged with retail theft at about 6:45 p.m. May 30 at Von Maur, 145 Yorktown Shopping Center, police said.

• Beata Kowalczyk, 42, of Elmhurst was charged with retail theft at about 2:15 p.m. May 31 at JC Penney, 175 Yorktown Shopping Center, police said.

• Samantha Erdell, 18, of Downers Grove was charged with retail theft at about 7:45 p.m. May 31 at JC Penney, 175 Yorktown Shopping Center, police said.
 
Villa Park

Battery counts filed

• Aaron Swapsy, 30, of Addison was charged with domestic battery at about 4:45 a.m. May 24 in the first block of West Terrace Street, police said.

• Gary Franklin, 41, of Villa Park was charged with domestic battery at about 12:30 p.m. May 24 in the first block of Elm Street, police said.

Drug charges filed

• Ramiro Galindo, 57, of Bellwood was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at about 3:45 a.m. May 23 at Roosevelt Road and Third Street, police said.

• Christopher Smith, 34, of Villa Park was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at about 8 p.m. May 27 in the 400 block of West Division Street, police said.

DUI charged

Alonzo Bustos, 31, of Villa Park was charged with drunken driving at about 12:30 a.m. May 24 at Westmore Avenue and North Avenue, police said.

Gas reported stolen

About $30 worth of gas was reported stolen at about 2:30 p.m. May 24 from the Phillips 66, 523 W. North Ave., police said.

Underage drinking charged

Edwin Rodriguez, 20, of Chicago was charged with underage drinking at about 12:45 a.m. May 25 at North and Ellsworth avenues, police said.
