Lemont native Willie Hayes has been discharged from Naperville Edward Hospital less than 48 hours after he was stabbed in the chest in an attack at Frankie’s Blue Room nightclub in Naperville just before 1 a.m. Saturday.

Hayes, a senior at North Central College and a former Lemont High School football standout, was one of three people stabbed at the bar. One of the victims, Naperville second-grade teacher Shaun Wild, 24, was killed after he was stabbed in the chest.

Daniel Olaska, 27, who is currently being held on a $3 million bond, is the man responsible in the stabbing, according to police. Olaska allegedly pulled out a 5-inch-long folding knife and stabbed Hayes, Wild, and a bar employee, according to the Chicago Tribune report.

Wild was reportedly intervening in an argument between Hayes and Olaska.

On Monday afternoon, Hayes' parents released a statement via North Central College:

"We are devastated by the Wild family's loss and wish to express our deepest sympathies. We are grateful to the North Central College family for their continuing support of Willie during his recovery. As our son recovers, we ask you to respect our privacy and the privacy of his coaches, friends and teammates. Willie's prognosis remains positive and we hope to have him home soon."

The incident began around 12:45 a.m. Saturday. Hayes and Olaska sat at the same table in Frankie’s Blue Room and Hayes joked about Olaska drinking beer from a wine glass, according to the Chicago Tribune. Both men stood and Olaska sliced Wild on the arm and stabbed Hayes’ chest. When Olaska turned to leave, Wild tried to stop him and Olaska stabbed Wild in the heart, the Tribune report states.

Hayes was taken to Edward Hospital and underwent surgery but as of Monday morning had been discharged.

Hayes, a 2008 graduate of Lemont High School, was a defensive standout for the Indians’ football team, and also played baseball. He led the football team as a defensive captain to the program’s first state berth in fall of 2007.

Hayes also played football at Naperville's North Central College, lining up at defensive end for the Cardinals this past season, his last at the school.

If found guilty of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder, Olaska could face 32 to 120 years in prison, according to reports.

Olaska will return to court March 5.
