After 16 years, Elmhurst Mayor Thomas Marcucci is leaving City Hall.
Marcucci announced Wednesday night at the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s golf outing that he will not seek a fifth term in office.
“It’s been a great experience, but it’s 16 years and I think it’s time,” Marcucci said Thursday. “I’ve got a lot of things on my plate and as I said [Wednesday] night to the Chamber of Commerce ... for Tom Marcucci and the Marcucci family and the Marcucci family businesses, we’re not in the same place we were in 16 years ago.”
Marcucci said it’s time to dedicate more time to his family, his position as vice president of sales and marketing at Gonnella Baking Co. and outside activities that he hasn’t had the time for in nearly two decades.
“My (five) children are grown now. I have two daughters in D.C., so I’d like to travel to see them a little more often, and my wife and I bought a beach house,” Marcucci said. “(At my job) I’ve put in 30 hours a week (and now) my partners and my relatives will expect that I’ll be at work at 9 a.m., which has not been the case for 16 years.”
When he took on the job to accomplish such things as revitalizing the downtown area, Marcucci never planned out how long he wanted to lead the city.
“I just know there were some things I wanted to accomplish,” Marcucci said.
