The mother of Elmhurst College senior Matthew Kovich was a secretary, so Kovich came up with tuition, but at least he had a place to stay without worrying about rent, utilities or groceries. But when Kovich’s mother died in January and funding was cut in July for a college grant he receives, his life and his financial plan to get through school drastically changed.

An emergency room isn’t an ideal place to use for primary care, Dr. John Benages of the Elmhurst Clinic said. But a new “medical home” program piloted by the clinic with the help of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois will look to help keep costs down and fill the holes in care for patients with chronic illness.

While construction on St. Charles Road has already begun, Villa Park voters will have the final say on whether the village should repair bumpy roads elsewhere in the community. Voters will be asked in February's election whether the village should sell $27.5 million in bonds and raise its sales tax rate to fund work on local roads.

Hawthorne Elementary School has found a way to get students excited about recycling, by hosting its second waste-free lunch day this school year Wednesday. The days are held once a month, with hope that the efforts and attitude will become an everyday occurrence by next school year.
