A familiar GOP name in Illinois has decided to enter next year’s gubernatorial election.
Jim Ryan, an Elmhurst resident who served as Illinois Attorney General from 1994 to 2002, filed his petition for the statewide office Monday, Nov. 2.
Ryan ran for governor in 2002 but lost to tarnished ex-governor Rod Blagojevich by a 52-45 margin.
Ryan joins state Sen. Kirk Dillard, businessman Adam Andrzejewski of Hinsdale, DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom, state Sen. Bill Brady, former Illinois GOP chairman Andy McKenna, and political pundit Dan Proft in a crowded Republican primary to be held in February.
Ryan will formally announce his candidacy at noon Tuesday at the Lincoln Statue on Capitol Grounds in Springfield, according to a news release.
