For the third year in a row and just the fifth time in school history, the Saluki men's basketball team has an Academic All-American.

Senior guard Bryan Mullins was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team on Wednesday. In 2008, Mullins was a second-team Academic All-American, and so was Jamaal Tatum in 2007. Mike Glenn was a first teamer in 1976 and 1977.

The 6-foot-2 guard has a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in finance. Earlier this season, Mullins became just the second player in Missouri Valley Conference history to accumulate 500 assists and 250 steals in a career. He joined Creighton's Ryan Sears (1997-01) as the only league players to surpass both figures. Mullins currently has 509 assists and 254 steals. In late January, Mullins was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right foot and has missed the last six games.

"Only one other player in school history has been named first-team Academic All-American, so that speaks volumes about Bryan's career as a student-athlete," said head coach Chris Lowery. "We're extremely proud of him."
