Former White Sox infieilder Mike Caruso signed a contract with the Joliet JackHammers of the Northern League Thursday.
Caruso, whoplaced third in the 1998 American League Rookie of the Year voting and played for the White Sox in 1998 and 1999, will take the spot of departed designated hitter Juan Diaz, who is moving on to join Nuevo Laredo of the Mexican League.
Last season Caruso hit .362 with three home runs and 31 RBI in 46 games with the South Georgia Peanuts of the South Coast League.
