Downers Grove’s Ryan Curry continues to make a nice adjustment to South Atlantic League pitching.
The graduate of Downers Grove South and Bradley University is in his second year in the Florida Marlins’ farm system, and has come on strong this season after a slow start with the organization’s Class A team in Greensboro, N.C.
Through his first 72 games, Greensboro’s starting second baseman was hitting .261 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs (tying him for fourth on the team in both categories). Curry is also third on the team with 38 runs scored. He also has committed just six errors, compared to a combined 51 by the squad’s other three starting infielders.
After hitting just .188 in the month of April (15-for-80), Curry began his steady climb offensively before warming up big-time as summer approached. In the month of June, he had a .330 average (36-of-109) with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 19 RBIs.
Curry signed with the Marlins shortly after being drafted in June 2007, and hit .308 last season with the organization’s Class A short season team in Jamestown, N.Y.
