WESTMONT – In spite of a strong offensive output, the Westmont boys basketball team returned empty-handed from the Ridgewood Battle at the Ridge Thanksgiving tournament.
DOWNERS GROVE – Danny Spinuzza sunk a buzzer-beating half-court shot to propel Downers Grove South boys basketball to its first win of the season. Although the Mustangs returned with just one win in four games at the St. Charles East Ron Johnson tournament, the lone victory came in dramatic fashion.
The high school football season wrapped up with state championship games over the weekend, and now the Suburban Life honors the cream of the crop from Benet, Bolingbrook, Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Hinsdale Central, Hinsdale South, Lemont, Lisle and Westmont for their performances this season.
The U17 Elite Black girls team from United Soccer Academy in Oak Brook competed in the annual premier Midwest SLSG Girls Fall Classic and College Showcase in St. Louis in early November.
DOWNERS GROVE – The future is now for the Downers Grove North boys basketball team. Boasting a lineup stacked with a bevy of sophomore and junior talent, the Trojans will be looking to reach the .500 mark record-wise for the first time in head coach Jim Thomas’ tenure.

WINNETKA – An impressive season came to an impressive end for Gabby Sims and her Downers Grove North swimming and diving teammates. Led by Sims, the Trojans won four events, tallied 157 points and finished second in the state, just 3.5 points back of state champion New Trier.

DOWNERS GROVE – Heading into his second year as head coach, Stephen Bolt sees a new level of commitment within the Downers Grove North girls basketball program.
DOWNERS GROVE – Head coach Lyndsie Long is ushering in a new era of Downers Grove South girls basketball. Long – who was recently hired to teach health and PE at the high school – will take the torch from longtime head coach Ellen O’Brien, who stepped down after the 2012-13 season.
DOWNERS GROVE – A stingy defense was not enough to power the Downers Grove North football team into the state semifinals on Saturday. Although the Trojan defense surrendered just seven points to Mt. Carmel on Saturday, the North offense could not move the ball, gaining only one first down en route to a 7-0 loss.
With one of the best girls volleyball programs in the state, Benet continues to produce all-area nominations. But the talent is abundant on the South team, as Bolingbrook, Downers Grove North, Downers Grove South, Hinsdale Central, HInsdale South, Lemont and Lisle and Westmont are also represented.
PEORIA – Saturday was the perfect end to a successful month for Downers Grove North’s boys cross country team. The Trojans finished a solid postseason with a second place finish at last weekend’s state meet at Detweiller Park.
