A three-year starting quarterback at Downers Grove South, Chandler Whitmer led the Mustangs to the Class 8A quarterfinals this year before getting an early jump on his next challenge.

Instead, they buried their 16-year-old son in 2005, after he died in an alcohol-related incident. In response, the Petits formed Parents And Teens Together, a nonprofit now celebrating its fifth anniversary which provides positive alternatives to underage drinking in the community.
