Tollway worker to be sentenced for theft

An Illinois State Toll Highway Authority employee based out of the headquarters in Downers Grove will be sentenced July 27 after she pled guilty to theft of government property exceeding $10,000 and official misconduct.
DuPage County state’s attorney’s office spokesman Paul Darrah said Uganda T. Harris, 33, of Bellwood stole fines paid by drivers who made I-PASS violations from April through October 2008.
Darrah said Harris worked in the I-PASS business center where fines are paid. Harris properly collected the tollway fines, but Darrah said she stole the administrative fees on those transactions.
“She would pocket the administrative fees, but it would show that the toll was paid,” Darrah said.
On Tuesday, June 30, Darrah said he was not certain how much total money was stolen by Harris.
Darrah said that if found guilty, Harris could face between four and 15 years in prison or probation.
